Bio

I have been teaching in the Piedmont City School System for 19 1/2 years. I have a passion for mathematics, and I always have. I went home every day from elementary school to reteach the day's lesson to my stuffed animals as a kid, and still enjoy the challenge and satisfaction that comes from solving a problem. I have had the privilege to teach in all three of our schools. I taught Algebra, Geometry, and test prep maths at the high school, I got to teach all three grades in our middle school, and have spent the past 5 1/2 years teaching 4th-grade math in the elementary school. I love to hear a child say that math is their favorite subject! I also love to feed that passion with my own. So many times students begin to struggle and get frustrated and lose the joy they can find in math; my hope is to carry an infectious love for my subject and build the confidence they need to tackle any problem in math and in life! I attended Jacksonville State University for my Bachelor's degree in secondary math, my Masters in School Counseling, and an add-on in Elementary Education. I did a practicum at Anniston Middle School and my internship at Glencoe Middle School. I am a Piedmont Alumni, graduate of the class of 1995. I married a member of the class of 1991, Chris Hanson, principal of Piedmont Middle School. We have three children: Macy-20, Max-16, and Mitch-8. We can typically be found at a ball field somewhere. Both of our boys are very involved in athletics. Our daughter now attends JSU and works at one of the best places ever, Chick-fil-A. I like to spend my down time chilling with the family or working on little decorating projects around my home. I love to cook, and try to read at least one book a month. And, I still love a good, challenging math problem!!
