Bio

Hey there! I’m Aubrey F. Cowan, born and raised right here in Piedmont, Alabama, and proud to be a Class of 2001 graduate. I went on to Jacksonville State University, where I picked up a few degrees along the way — B.S. (2004), M.S.Ed. (2009), and Ed.S. (2014) — and I’m certified in Special Education, Physical Education, and Driver’s Education.

During the school year, I teach the self-contained special education classroom for grades K–8 here in Piedmont, and for the past four summers, I’ve swapped lesson plans for steering wheels as the Driver’s Education teacher at the high school. Between teaching life skills and teaching teenagers how to parallel park, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for patience, prayer, and a good sense of humor!

I’ve been married to my wonderful wife, Heather (Reaves) Cowan of Weaver, since 2012, and we’ve got three awesome kids who keep life busy and full of laughter: Grady Thomas (10, 5th grade at Piedmont Elementary), John Ellis (5, Pre-K), and Amelia Ruth (5, Pre-K). We also share our home with our one-year-old standard poodle, Claude Poodle, who’s convinced he runs the place — and honestly, he might be right.

Outside of school, I co-own a fireworks store that lights up the sky during the Fourth of July and New Year’s holidays, and I help Heather with her businesses — My Three Little’s, a children’s boutique in downtown Piedmont offering monogramming and appliqué, her photography business, Heather Cowan Photography (Basically, she’s the creative one — I’m just the muscle that hauls boxes and sets up lights.), and her heirloom pumpkin business, Morgan’s Meadow Pumpkin Farm, which keeps our family busy (and covered in pumpkin dust) every fall.

I’m a follower of Christ and an active member of Weaver Congregational Church. When I’m not teaching or chasing kids (or poodles), you’ll usually find me at the ball fields, coaching or cheering for Grady and John Ellis in baseball and basketball, or watching Amelia flip and tumble through gymnastics.

My hobbies include deep sea and inshore fishing, jeeping with my family, watching the Blue Angels, visiting Pensacola, Florida, and cheering on Piedmont High School Athletics, Jacksonville State University, and the University of Alabama.

Life’s busy, a little chaotic, and full of blessings — and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
